Organisation profile

The Department of Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering was established in the year 1960. It is offering two B. Tech courses in Mechanical and Industrial & Production Engineering. The department is also running three M. Tech programmes in Computer Aided Analysis and Design, Manufacturing Engg and Thermal Engineering and Power Systems. The department proposes to start two more M.Tech programs, one in Tribology and Maintenance in 2018 and another in Advanced Material Technology in 2019.

To provide practical exposure to under graduate and post graduate students and to take industrial projects for faculty, the department has signed MOU with the following industries:

  1. SIGNET GROUP OF INDUSTRIES
  2. MAINI GROUP OF INDUSTRIES
  3. EVEREST GROUP OF INDUSTRIES
  4. RIMTEX INDUSTRIES

MOU with SARDA METALS AND ALLOYS LTD. is also in the pipe line.

The department is on the verge of establishing a Center of Excellence in collaboration with Altair Engineering to benefit the research scholar, faculty and students of MU and carry out research/industry oriented projects. The department is also planning to establish a training center for joint certification program with Bosch Ltd.

To prepare the students effectively for placement interviews, the department is planning to conduct certification courses in CNC programming, FEM and CFD analysis tools. This will enhance the competitive edge of the students during their placement interviews.

The department has core competency in Tribology, Biomechanics, Materials Science, Composites, Thermal Energy & Power systems, Turbomachines, Machining of alloys and composites. It consists of scholarly faculty members who are actively engaged in research, publications and consultancy in the areas of core competency of the department apart from regular academic work. The department is proud to have a few state of the art computational, experimental and testing facilities for undertaking research. The outcomes of research work are published in National and International journals of repute. The department has active industry-institute interaction and has conducted several short courses and workshops for professionals from industry and academics. MHRD, Government of India has recognized the department as minor QIP centre for offering M.Tech and PhD programmes to the teachers of AICTE recognized Engineering colleges.  The students of our department are very active in experiential learning co-curricular activities. They participate in interdisciplinary student groups and undertake research oriented live projects such as FORMULA Manipal, SOLAR Mobile, Aero MIT, RoboManipal and Mars Rover.
