N2 - The structure of the title compound, C14H12O2, resembles that of phenyl benzoate and 4-methyl-phenyl benzoate, with similar geometric parameters. The dihedral angle between the phenyl and benzoyl rings is 79.61 (6)°, compared to values of 55.7° for phenyl benzoate and 60.17 (7)° for 4-methyl-phenyl benzoate. The mol-ecules in the title compound are packed with the methyl-phenyl and the benzoyl rings nearly orthogonal to each other.
