Abstract

The present study was undertaken to find out the antibacterial and antiplaque effects of crude aqueous extract obtained from mesocarp of Cocos nucifera. The crude aqueous extract was prepared from fresh mesocarp of unripe coconut by using Mixer and Filtration. The antibacterial activity was tested on standard strains and selected gram positive and gram negative bacteria. It showed antibacterial effect against all gram positive cocci tested but not against the gram negative bacilli. The antiplaque activity was tested against Strepto mutans but it did not prevent plaque formation in vitro.
