Abstract

Synthesis of new 3-methylflavones with various substitution on the ring A and B is being described. They were evaluated for antioxidant and antibacterial activity against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria. Test compounds such as F-4,9,11,12 and 20 exhibited DPPH radical scavenging activity with IC 50 below 100 μg/ml. The same test compounds exhibited Gram positive bacterial growth inhibition in the range between 50-100% against standard amoxicillin.
