Abstract
Electric field maps of neutral and cationic forms of 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin), 5-chlorotryptamine, 6-hydroxytryptamine and 4-hydroxytryptamine have been studied. The binding of these species through the substituent at position 5 and the amino group, with the receptor, are shown to be of crucial significance. A relationship between the observed potencies of the different compounds and electric fields near the substituent at position 5, has been shown to exist.
