Abstract

The aim of this study was to compare the incidence of micro-cracks formed in root canal dentin after using VDW Reciproc and WaveOne Gold single file rotary system. Thirty maxillary central incisors were divided into three groups (n = 10). Group 1: canals were prepared using VDW Reciproc. Group 2: canals were prepared using WaveOne Gold. Group 3: control group - canals were not prepared. All roots were horizontally sectioned at 3 mm, 6 mm, and 9 mm from the apex and viewed under a stereomicroscope to determine the presence of cracks. The data was analyzed using Chi-square test. No cracks were observed in control group in all the thirds of the root canal. However, in both the test groups, cracks were seen at all the thirds of root canal system without any significant differences between them (P > 0.05). Root canal preparation with VDW Reciproc and WaveOne Gold rotary instruments resulted in micro cracks of the root canal dentinal walls.
