Hybrid polymer composites for EMI shielding application- a review

Abstract

This paper presents a comprehensive literature survey on hybrid polymer composite material research for electromagnetic shielding applications. It focuses on electromagnetic (EM) radiation, mechanism of electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding and suitability of polymer composites for the EMI shielding applications. Based on the recent literature, it summarizes and discusses the fabrication, characterization, and results of polymer hybrid composites. Particulate reinforced bulk polymer composites, polymer-based microfilms, multi-layered polymer-based film composites, hybrid fabric reinforced composites, and foam based polymer composite for EMI shielding applications are discussed. In addition, an attempt is made to summarize the salient features and the challenges in hybrid polymer material design and development for EMI shielding applications.
