N2 - A metal is alloyed with different elements for further enhancement of its potentiality in various applications. The principle focuses on enhancing the properties of different materials is to reduce the cost, and to maintain good service life of a component. In this context, for the present study, pack carburization was done on steels with Na2CO3 as an energizer. The depth of diffusion and change in hardness of the steels were measured. It was found that pack carburization is an effective and cheaper method to produce hard case and soft core in steels. There is a positive influence of an increase in the holding time, temperature and the percentage (by weight) energizer on the steels. From ANOVA it was observed that temperature plays a significant role in carbon diffusion.
