LabVIEW implementation of an elasticity measurement technique

Abstract

In this paper, we propose a technique for measurement of Elasticity Modulus of textile using image processing techniques implemented on LabVIEW platform, here the elasticity modulus is measured by measuring the stiffness. The material whose stiffness is to be measured is subjected to a known force, and the deformation caused by application of load is calculated by image processing algorithms implementation on LabVIEW. The deformation caused due to the application of load depends on stiffness of the textile. By making use of the relation between stiffness and deformation, stiffness is calculated. Then elasticity modulus is derived from stiffness. A camera is used for the purpose of capturing the image, and further processed on LabVIEW. The data is processed using edge detection techniques to compute stiffness and elasticity. The system was subjected to test and results showed it had achieved the set objectives.
