Performance Analysis of Out-Band OpenFlow Switch Architecture

Abstract

Software Defined Networking (SDN) is an emerging architecture. SDN has made much impact on networks by providing network programmability which helps to handle the explosive growth of the smart network. The design and capabilities of the underlying SDN infrastructure influence the performance of the conventional network tasks. Many research effort has been made to study the performance characteristics of the SDN network. In this paper, we propose a mathematical model to analyze the performance of out band SDN network architecture. We make use of the capabilities of M/G/1 model to examine the effect of the size of flow table, switch load and the availability of the rule on mean sojourn time. The model is validated using the simulation.
