To reduce dependence on fossil fuels and boost sustainability, bioplastics offer an exceptional replacement for petroleum-based environmentally harmful plastics. The present work describes the preparation and characterization of starch-based bioplastic composites reinforced with 10%, 30%, and 50% citric acid for crosslinking. Comprehensive morphological and topographical characterization of the developed bioplastics were conducted using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and atomic force microscopy (AFM) in tapping mode to compare features of the developed bioplastics. Further, the water solubility of the synthesized bioplastics also decreased with increasing concentrations of citric acid.
