Wireless sensor node localization in underwater environment

Abstract

A distributed network of many wireless sensor nodes underwater is termed as underwater acoustic sensor network (UASN). In such a network, for efficient data processing and transmission, location finding of nodes is of prime importance. In this work, an attempt has been made for 2-D localization using recursive procedure using MATLAB and Aqua-Sim Network Simulator 2.30 for both shallow and deep underwater communication. This procedure enables the already localized nodes to act as reference nodes to localize the 'unknowing nodes' saving battery power and increasing the lifetime of the network.
